Zuari Cement wins “Impresa 2011 Award for social impact”
20 - September - 2011
On the occasion of the first Indo-Italian Business Conference and in the presence of the Italian Ambassador, H.E. Giacomo Sanfelice di Monteforte, Zuari Cement has been awarded by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce in recognition of its social commitment in improving the health and wellbeing of its
workforce.
The award acknowledges also the contribution of Zuari Cement on the impact of the economic relations between India and Italy.
It is worth mentioning that in the last few years Zuari Cement provided medical care to all employees as well as to local villagers based on their needs. To improve access to these services, the company has recently opened a new medium-sized hospital with all the facilities necessary for basic healthcare.
On the other hand, the Company has built a new school in the Sitapuram plant with an investment of 174,600 € (15MIndian Rupees). The school includes 20 rooms, with 14 classrooms and labs for physics and chemistry lessons, a library, staff and parent-visiting rooms. The new School will comfortably accommodate 500 students and will represent a significant improvement of the service already provided to the community by the Company: presently 357 students have access to the Zuari Cement’s education programme. Among these students 50% are the children of employees while the remaining 50% come from the neighboring villages.
